Whatâs Included in the Joe Pass Workshop
â Part 2
Â
Turnarounds : I VI II V: From Classic to Creative
A turnaround isnât just one formula â itâs a world of possibilities.
Weâll explore classic IâVIâIIâV forms and beyond, and learn how Joe Pass re-harmonized these patterns to create flow and surprise.
Â
Â
Substitute Patterns
what do you play when harmony stands still?
it´s not always about rhythmic patterns ( also that´s important too ) but it´s about having some ideas up your sleeve that can make all the difference :)
Â
 Connecting Chords Smoothly
Â
let´s check out the magic secondary dominants. they are so helpful in creating forward motion, be it in your lines or your chords.
Â
Â
Applying It To Jazz StandardsÂ
Â
to me this is the most fun part! let´s grab a jazz standard and look how we can apply the stuff we learned so far. because that´s what i all comes down to! making music and having some great ideas.
Â
This Workshop Is For You IfâŚ
Â
-
you love Joe Pass ( or jazz theory in general ) and want to understand his harmonic approach
-
you already know basic jazz chords and want to go deeper
-
youâve played âturnaroundsâ before but are bored by always playing the same chords
-
you feel stuck comping over long static chords (like 4 bars of Cmaj7)
-
you want to connect chords smoothly and you want to finally understand secondary dominants
-
you enjoy learning through real playing, not just theory
Â
YES, I WANT IN!Â
I'm Tina Jäckel
Â
Iâm a guitarist and educator with a deep love for jazz harmony â and especially for the sound and logic of Joe Pass. ( and beyond)
After years of studying and performing, I founded the Jazz Guitar Coffee Club, a space for players who want to grow musically, share ideas, and stay inspired.
My goal is simple: to help guitarists , challenge themsevves and to grow into independent players who know what they are doing :) PLUS :and basically never give up.
In this workshop, Iâll guide you step-by-step through Joe Passâs Guitar Style ( p.4-6) â showing you how to understand the chords, apply them musically, and make them your own.
